Phil Young didn’t have to cast his line far when it came time to bring together a band for his first solo album “The Road After Me”, which was released 3 February 2018. This supergroup of his past bands (Mark Stallard, Rick Potts, and Tim Gove) has over 25 years of performing together.
Recorded by Brian McTear at Miner Street Recordings in Philadelphia (think of Waxahatchee, Dr. Dog, Kurt Vile, and The War on Drugs), “The Road After Me” is Phil’s first chance to take the captain’s chair.
Evocative and poignant and layered and atmospheric, “they are songs that just wouldn’t go away. The players were in place and it was time to give the songs an audience”.
“It’s all the events that made me who I am. Things I couldn’t control, things I could, growing up, and being grown… and the places where they happened.”
Phil Young’s “The Road After Me” wears its influences lightly – but you can hear Sparklehorse, Grandaddy, Spoon, and PJ Harvey – the approach is a little unsettling but has a lot of power.
“The Road After Me” is available on CD or your favorite streaming platforms.
